It's that Time Again

There's something about the beginning of summer that makes me nostalgic. Memories of childhood days spent running barefoot from the local pool as the heat rising from the asphalt threatens to scorch my feet, hiking with family and exploring the surrounding mountains and valleys, lazy afternoons lounging poolside complete with Orange Creamies and lots of laughter, endless nights of volleyball and trips to the Hospital Cafe, savoring gelato while navigating foreign streets...

The semester has ended and summer has officially begun for me. I am anxiously anticipating another summer spent in the Czech Republic, but before I leave I have a few more days of quality time in California with my family. This summer, as every summer before, brings promises of new adventures and the opportunity to create lasting memories and I absolutely cannot wait for it to get underway. 

Dream a Little Dream

When I was little my dream job was to be a photographer for National Geographic. Travelling the world and taking pictures of majestic landscapes and beautiful wildlife was how I wanted to spend my life. That dream died somewhere along lifes path, but to this day I am filled with excitement and longing whenever I see a National Geographic magazine. My dreams may have changed, but my youthful dreams will never be forgotten.

Distractions and Fulfillment

I have a horrible habit of turning movies on as "background noise" while I write papers. Not a good idea. I end up sitting there completely engrossed by the television, laptop perched on my lap with the cursor blinking angrily at me trying to get my attention. Some movies make it easier for me to pry my eyes from the T.V. and direct them back to my laptop, "Meet Joe Black" is not one of them.


Everything about this movie is perfect, absolutely perfect. The dialogue, the music, the acting, the pregnant pauses and the content all come together to create an impeccable film. Beyond all that it is a great reminder of what is most important in life- love. To really live, you have to have a life full of love. Whether that love is romantic, familial, or the love of friends, love is what makes life fulfilling and worth all the bumps in the road. So embrace your loved ones and enjoy life.
